Planned Roadworks W/C 5th October 2026

Drivers across Bournemouth, Christchurch, Poole and East Dorset should allow extra time for some journeys this week, with new utility works starting on Monday alongside several longer-running restrictions.

Major routes

Highcliffe Road in Christchurch remains restricted on the approach to Hoburne Roundabout. One lane is closed for council highway improvements, with the work currently scheduled to continue until 7 December.

At Merley Roundabout, four-way temporary traffic lights remain in place for highway improvement work affecting Oakley Hill and the A31. These restrictions are expected to continue until 13 November.

Bournemouth

West Cliff Road will be restricted from Monday 5 October while SGN carries out gas works outside The Nici, between Durley Roundabout and West Hill Road. The work is currently scheduled to continue until Friday 16 October.

Gervis Place in Bournemouth town centre remains closed as the long-running works continue. The closure is affecting bus routes and stops, so passengers are advised to check before travelling.

Southcote Road also remains under temporary traffic control at its junction with Gardens View while SGN carries out gas works. The restrictions are expected to remain until Sunday 11 October.

Poole and Bear Cross

Drivers using Magna Road at Bear Cross should expect temporary traffic controls near Bearwood Post Office from Monday 5 October until Friday 9 October while Wessex Water carries out works.

Stanley Green Road will also be under temporary traffic control near its junction with the A35 Wimborne Road on Monday 5 October for planned Wessex Water works.

East Dorset

Cranborne Road near Honeybrook Farm, just north of Wimborne, remains restricted while emergency structural repairs continue at Stanbridge House. The temporary traffic controls are currently expected to stay in place until Friday 16 October.

At Three Legged Cross, temporary traffic lights remain on Verwood Road while SGN carries out gas works. These restrictions are scheduled to continue until Thursday 5 November.

With several works affecting busy routes, drivers are advised to leave a little extra time for journeys, particularly during the morning and evening rush hours.
